KANGAR: Floods in Perlis and Kedah have displaced some 2,900 people.
In Perlis, as of 10am on Saturday, 1,672 people from 499 families have been evacuated to relief centres.
According to the Welfare Department’s Info Banjir app, the victims were transferred to centres in Padang Besar, Kangar and Arau.
Many areas were submerged in knee-deep water after intermittent rain throughout Friday.
Among the worst-hit areas were Titi Tinggi, Beseri, Chuping, Mata Ayer and Santan in Padang Besar.
Other places affected were Bintong, Sena, Indera Kayangan, Kuala Perlis and Kayang in Kangar and Pauh, Tambun Tulang, Guar Sanji, Simpang Empat, Sanglang and Pekan Arau in Arau.
Meanwhile in Kedah, the number of flood evacuees on Saturday increased to 1,104 from 664 the previous day.
The victims are being housed at relief centres in Kuala Muda, Kota Setar, Kepala Batas, Kubang Pasu, Malau, Pendang and Pokok Sena.
